T J Hughes Veterinary Physiotherapy
Compassionate, tailored, mobile animal physiotherapy, in Pembrokeshire and surrounding areas. Helping animals recover from injuries, surgery, improve mobility, and enhance their quality of life.
About Me: Tessa Hughes
I developed a passion for animals early on, volunteering at rescue centres, in veterinary practices and kennels where I gained valuable knowledge and practical skills . I gained a First-Class Honours degree in BSc Applied Animal Science with Therapy from Hartpury University, I then went on and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Physiotherapy at the University of Nottingham and I am currently working towards my MSc.
For the past two years, I have worked within a veterinary practice as a Veterinary Nursing Assistant, gaining practical knowledge in veterinary care that complements my physiotherapy work. This experience has enhanced my clinical skills, deepened my understanding of animal behaviour and welfare, and improved my ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary veterinary team.
I am insured and a registered member of The Institute of Registered Veterinary & Animal Practitioners (IRVAP), which accredits professionals in veterinary physiotherapy, ensuring that members maintain high standards of clinical expertise, professionalism, and ethical care.

What is veterinary physiotherapy?
Veterinary physiotherapy focuses on the rehabilitation and pain management of animals through tailored physiotherapy techniques and rehabilitation plans. It aims to improve mobility, enhance recovery from injury or surgery, and manage chronic conditions like arthritis. By utilising methods such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, and electrotherapy, veterinary physiotherapists work to restore function and improve the overall quality of life for animals, including dogs, cats, and horses, but many other animals too!
Why Veterinary Physiotherapy?
Veterinary Physiotherapy promotes healing, alleviates pain, and enhances mobility. It plays a critical role in rehabilitation after surgery or injury, helping animals regain strength and function more quickly. Additionally, physiotherapy can prevent injuries, manage chronic conditions, and optimise athletic performance in working or sporting animals. Ultimately, it supports the overall well-being of pets, ensuring they lead healthy and active lives.
